In biology discipline, Regeneration can be achieved through vascularization and recruitment of stem cells, but the engineering materials that are man made or synthetic are avascular, with the less chances of ability to heal itself.

There are number of techniques are there for auto repair of microscopic cracks and defects, but autonomic restoration of materials that suffers a lot of damage and analogous mass loss has not become fully aware of. If we want restoration to occur, then we need to overcome some factors including the interaction of mass transport, surface tension, environmental factors, gravity that act on liquid reagents and chemical reactions linked with the damage restoration.

Now after a lengthy experimentation work, Researchers are succeeded to make a special chemical compound, a mixture of various ingredients that can repair a 9 millimeter wide hole in plastic sheet. The order of magnitude of this self repair technique is found to be larger than ever illustrated before.
This new invention will bring about a incredible source for repairing damages in the wings and bodies of airplanes, spacecraft on the go.

On this occasion, Ellen Arruda, mechanical engineer from university of Michigan said,”It’s amazing; I think this is a big achievement  that can help us to autonomously repair structures without any problem.”

We can’t grew up in this complex life without the ability to repair itself because of any injury. For example: In case of any animal suffers a serious wound, compounds started flowing from blood vessels to wounded site, where they helps in the growth of new tissues to repair the wounded site.

Now researchers and scientists, from University of Illinos describes the two step process to repair big voids. 

1st Step: 

They filled two parallel channels of diameter 330 micrometer. Then, two mixtures of organic molecules forms a semi-solid and solid structures. The mixtures were of  mainly dyed red and blue.

After the completion of first step, they fixed firmly and deeply the channels into the thick plastic sheet of 3 millimeter. Then laid the sheet in horizontal direction and punctured it. The red and blue mixtures will start flowing into the hole of almost circular in shape and intermixed with each other.
After performing the above procedure, cross-linked fiber’s will be obtained with the help of catalyst. This will make a semisolid gel like compound that will fills the hole completely. 
2nd Step:

The next step actually perform the healing process.The netlike structure formed by the gel’s fibers helps in healing with third compound coming from the channels. With the reaction between these two compounds, crisscrossing polymers comes into picture and also fills in the holes and cracks produced during this procedure. 
The substance looks like in purplish color. This polymer made a clear plastic and proper seal. Most of the material’s strength in restored by the formation of this polymer.

One of this team member, Jeffrey Moore, chemist from profession, published the work in Science which clearly indicate that this scheme will repair a hole of almost 1 centimeter in diameter. This is the far most better technique in non living materials.
